Elsa is an artist and designer whose practice unfolds at the intersection of jewelry and gemstone carving. From an early sensitivity to form and volume, nurtured through crafting jewels and sculpting clay, she developed a refined aesthetic language grounded in three-dimensional expression.
During her jewelry studies, she became aware that metal and wax alone could not fully support the aesthetic qualities she was seeking. This realization led her toward stone carving, which soon became central to her practice. Color, transparency, and opacity emerged as essential elements of her creative vocabulary, allowing a deeper exploration of material and form.
Her professional journey began within one of the most distinguished Parisian lapidary workshops, where she worked exclusively for Vendôme high jewelry houses. The rigorous standards of quality and precision cultivated during this period remain deeply embedded in her approach and continue to inform her work today.
Elsa later developed her engraving processes through extensive experimentation and personal research. In order to work under better conditions and gain direct access to stones, she left Paris and established herself in Idar-Oberstein, in close proximity to gemstone dealers and cutting resources. Informed by this traditional gemstone carving heritage, her practice develops a personal style that expands beyond established conventions, while remaining attentive to the quality, precision, and ancestral techniques of this time-honored craftsmanship.
Her work blurs the boundary between carving and wearable art through engraved stone jewelry conceived as an integral part of the sculptural form itself. Each piece transcends static presence to acquire an interactive, wearable dimension. By innovating different techniques, aesthetics, and combinations of stones, she aims to get as close as possible to her sources of inspiration. In her jewellery work, inclusions within the stones play a fundamental role: they guide the creative process and become a decisive source of inspiration, echoing the beauty of the natural world on a different scale.
Elsa’s inspirations arise from fauna, flora, and natural patterns and formations. Felines have remained a recurring subject of study and refinement throughout her practice. Alongside these organic references, she is also inspired by classical representations of the human body from ancient Greece and Rome.
The diversity of gemstones continually fascinates and fuels her creative energy. Their inherent potential, and her desire to shape and sublimate them, sustain a constant state of exploration. Through her work, Elsa seeks to bring these underground wonders to life, celebrating the beauty of fauna and flora for which she holds deep admiration.
