HOODIE AQUAMARINE
BLACK TOURMALINE IN AQUAMARINE
For the gemstone club!
This microscopic picture captures both aquamarine and black tourmaline inclusions. Aquamarine is the blue variety of beryl and owes its colour to trace amounts of iron ions found within the crystal lattice of the crystal.
Aquamarine usually grows in elongated six sided crystals and depending on its surroundings can have some very unique inclusions that are found within.
In this case you can see perfect doubly terminated schorl crystals within the aquamarine crystal.
These types of inclusions are called protogenetic inclusions, meaning that they formed long before the main aquamarine crystal itself. This pictures takes us inside the gemstones as it was an unknown universe.
