This year’s theme, Beyond the Crystal, premieres a special exhibition from
the Pohl Collection, revealing how mineral specimens evolve beyond their raw forms through human craftsmanship, blurring the boundaries between science, art, and design.

This exhibition presents the only assembly outside of Europe from the renowned mineral collection
of Dr. Erika Pohl.

Beyond the Crystal explores refined mineral specimens transformed through human

artistry. Moving beyond their raw geological origins, each piece reveals how natural

wonders can be reimagined and elevated into functional and decorative works.

The pieces on view range from spherical forms created from exceptionally rare and unusual mineral

materials to increasingly scarce examples of hand-crafted bowls from Idar-Oberstein,
a historic center of gemstone cutting and mineral craftsmanship.

This pairing of raw and hand-worked minerals captures a timeless exchange between the

natural world and human ingenuity, revealing how minerals - formed over millions of years

- can be respectfully shaped into works that balance beauty, function, and meaning.
